A 2021 Virtual Conference Today on Education, Energy and Food Towards a Better Environmental Future

Today, Pennsylvania State Rep. Napoleon Nelson (D-Montgomery), welcomes a vast and diverse slate of speakers and contributors to an environmentally themed virtual conference.
The event, titled “Education, Energy & Food: Our Environmental Future,” will run from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. today Friday, Feb. 5th and is be open free of charge to all who want to participate.
“What we’re trying to do here is increase the environmental awareness among many residents of our community and engage the activism of so many more who have given time, talent and treasure to shape a green and more prosperous commonwealth,” said Nelson, who’s in his first term representing the 154th Legislative District.
The lineup of speakers and contributors will include state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., as the keynote speaker; state Sen. Art Haywood, D-Phila./Montgomery; recently retired state Rep. Steve McCarter, who is Nelson’s predecessor; Tykee James, government affairs coordinator for the National Audubon Society; Dr. Darryl Williams, SVP of science & education for the Franklin Institute; Katie Blume, political director for the Conservation Voters of PA; Karen Shaffran from the Cheltenham School District; Ash Richards, Urban Agriculture Director for Phila. Parks Dept.; Maurice Sampson II, Eastern PA Director of Clean Water Action; Charles Ellison of WURD as the featured closing speaker; and more.
The conference will be separated into several sessions, including simultaneous “breakout rooms” from which participants can join and leave at their leisure. Among the main topics are the following:
STEM and Environmental Education.
Climate Preparedness and Energy Transition.
Food Self-Reliance & Backyard Farming.
