Highlights the deteriorating quality-of-life among Black households, families and children in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area
Creates a comprehensive action plan built around the GWUL core services, and
Presses regional policymakers, employers and other decisionmakers to act immediately.

It is the region’s first ambitious call-to-action toward troubling conditions throughout Black communities in such areas as jobs, housing, poverty, policing and healthcare.
Awareness will be built on social media around the hashtag #StateofBlackDCMD. A scheduled 1-hour Zoom-based virtual press conference and media conversation with GWUL President & CEO George H. Lambert, Jr. will take place on Tuesday, September 29th at 2pm ET.
Experts from the Brookings Institution, the Urban Institute and the D.C. Fiscal Policy Institute will offer recommendations on what the region must do to help Black families in the D.C.-area - specifically the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County, MD and Montgomery County, MD. This will be the first step towards a major GWUL Racial Equity Summit planned for March 2021.
The Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference Council on Communities of Color is also a partner and will help facilitate collaboration with Maryland state legislators. MEDIA ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND AND ASK QUESTIONS.
