Publisher’s Note
At this stage, it should no longer be that much of a secret that former president Trump, along with a rather tightly coordinated and highly-driven army of conservative activists, are preparing to completely destroy the administrative state. What is that? In essence, it’s the federal government - and everything and everyone that the federal government was designed to protect.
It’s not just the way the federal government functions, but it’s how it exists and how it preserves the way we function as an American society. Destroying the American administrative state, the infrastructure for law and order, also effectively destroys the U.S. Constitution. If the U.S. Constitution and the federal government are destroyed, which will happen at an accelerated pace should Trump get re-elected in this upcoming 2024 presidential election - and, yes, should Republicans maintain control of the House and re-take control of the Senate - the relatively stable unforcibly segregated American multicultural life we’ve all grown accustomed to in just the past 50 years will cease to exist. We will be facing the construction of total “minoritarian” rule, or brutal authoritarian rule under a powerful minority that does not look like or represent the vast majority of Americans. Very similar to the apartheid system in pre-Mandela South Africa. It will also look similar to the segregationist Jim Crow rule following Reconstruction in the late 19th century. However, this form of futuristic Jim Crow 2.0 will be much more sophisticated and stiffened by extra reliance on technology in a way that was never imagined by the first version of Jim Crow.
What’s interesting about Trumpian plans to destroy the federal government is how emboldened and out-in-the-open he and his supporters are about doing it. They are not hiding what they are planning to do. It’s been painstakingly catalogued and detailed in a frightening 922-page compendium titled “Project 2025.” Here’s a direct link to that volume. As it states …
This book is the product of more than 400 scholars and policy experts from across the conservative movement and around the country. Contributors include former elected officials, world-renowned economists, and veterans from four presidential Administrations. This is an agenda prepared by and for conservatives who will be ready on Day One of the next Administration to save our country. The Heritage Foundation is once again facilitating this work, but as our dozens of partners and hundreds of authors will attest, this book is the work of the entire conservative movement
Don’t let the seemingly ceremonial or dignitary-like language fool you. It’s much more horrifying than that and we can assume that Black rappers happily and stupidly stumping around for Trump have heard about it or read about it, yet. Here’s an outline from Democracy Docket on how insidious Project 2025 promises to be …
Simply put, Project 2025 is a massive, 920-page document that outlines exactly what the next Trump presidency would look like. This doesn’t just include policy proposals — like immigration actions, educational proposals and economic plans — but rather a portrait of the America that conservatives hope to implement in the next Republican administration, be it Trump or someone else. The document is a thorough blueprint for how, exactly, to carry out such a vision, through recommendations for key White House staff, cabinet positions, Congress, federal agencies, commissions and boards. The plan goes so far as to outline a vetting process for appointing and hiring the right people in every level of government to carry out this vision.
BBC also offers a clear glimpse into what this will do once Trump is elected. For example, here’s what will happen to government …
Project 2025 proposes that the entire federal bureaucracy, including independent agencies such as the Department of Justice, be placed under direct presidential control – a controversial idea known as “unitary executive theory”.
In practice, that would streamline decision-making, allowing the president to directly implement policies in a number of areas.
The proposals also call for eliminating job protections for thousands of government-employees, who could then be replaced by political appointees.
The document labels the FBI a “bloated, arrogant, increasingly lawless organization” and calls for drastic overhauls of this and other federal agencies, including eliminating the Department of Education.
They’re just daring everyone to stop them. The best take on Project 2025 that we’ve seen so far is this recent commentary from HBO’s Last Week Tonight host John Oliver …
In considering this, now imagine what you thought was an unimaginable sequence of events left to dystopic science fiction movies: an unhinged American dictatory with unitary authority over all functions of government who has complete access over the world’s largest economy and it’s most powerful military, along with shrewd control over a complex array of courts, prisons and even state to local policing agencies that will submit to him.
The good thing is that, according to a new Navigator Research polling survey, the more Americans (across party lines, in fact) learn about Project 2025, the more they don’t like it …
It will be really important in the coming months for Democrats, and public discourse in general, to make sure Project 2025 is linked to Trump and, for that matter, all Republican office holders who are preparing to carry it out. We all know what we have to do to avoid this.
