(REGISTER) Are You Ready For The Next Disaster?
A solutions-based discussion on how communities begin to adapt an emergency preparedness response as multiple crises happen at once
a CSG East | Healthcare Ready event
About This Event …
The Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference, Council on Communities of Color, in partnership with Healthcare Ready, presents a new installment in an ongoing series of micro-summits.
Our latest focus will be: "Are You Ready For The Next Disaster? Emergency Preparedness During A Pandemic, Protests & Climate Change"
Micro-summits offer insights, analysis and solutions on numerous challenges communities and governments face as crises mount. This next micro-summit will take place via Zoom on Friday, June 19th, 10am - 11am ET.
These micro summits are a unique convening of state and local policy makers, experts and practitioners concerned about massive equity gaps and the devastating impact of racism on communities of color.
According to a recent poll released by Healthcare Ready, 65 percent of Americans think a major disaster is likely to impact them or their family in the next five years, an increase from 54 percent in 2019. However, 50 percent do not have an emergency plan in place.
"Are You Ready for the Next Disaster?" will be a collection of policymakers, stakeholders and experts leading a solutions-based discussion on how communities begin, immediately, to adapt an emergency preparedness and response posture during an unprecedented convergence of multiple social, economic and public health crises. How does America pivot into an "emergency preparedness" mindset and how are historically marginalized communities affected by that? The discussion will explore how emergency response systems are currently strained, but also what can be done to prepare for record-breaking climate change disasters on the horizon which find Black and Brown communities on the front lines. What questions should we be asking our local and state government leaders about preparedness for the other hazards (wildfires, earthquakes, hurricanes) while our communities continue to face the realities of this pandemic?
REGISTER TODAY and join us for a 1-hour panel on policy solution and action plan to prepare our communities for the next disaster. Panelists will offer expert insights and guidance.
Registrants will receive a Zoom access link upon registration. Audience members will be able to ask questions by chat. Audience members are encouraged to discuss and share the panel on social media at #CSGEAST #HealthcareReady.
