About this Event …
The Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference, Council on Communities of Color presents a new installment in its ongoing Equity Gap Micro summit Series. This latest installment is in partnership with K12, Inc.
Our latest focus will be "Remote Learning: Is it Just for Pandemic or Is It the Future?"
These exclusive & open-to-the-public micro summits offer insights, analysis and policy prescriptions for numerous challenges communities face as the pandemic, protests and a disruptive political climate continues. This next micro summit will take place via Zoom on Friday, September 25th at 10am - 11am ET.
These micro summits are also produced with the B|E Note and moderated by CSG East Senior Fellow Charles D. Ellison. It is a unique convening of state and local policy makers, experts and thinkers concerned about the massive equity gaps exposed and worsened by the coronavirus pandemic - and what to do about them.
Public and private schools in all 50 states are activating unprecedented 'remote learning,' hybrid and blended learning models as educators must adapt to the pandemic. That's also happening as COVID-19 forces a reckoning within the K-12 education space, exposing blistering racial disparities and equity gaps that have been there from the start. Can remote learning address those gaps and close them? In "Remote Learning: Is it Just for Pandemic or Is it the Future?" we convene a panel of policymakers, advocates and educators to lead a solutions-based discussion on what communities can do to adapt to the new pandemic-forced virtual learning environment and how to harness innovation, opportunity and equity from that moment. How should schools and districts implement remote learning in meaningful, effective ways? What aspects of the remote learning, hybrid and blended learning conversation are we missing? Is virtual learning the key to breaking the dreaded "school-to-prison" pipeline? What challenges and opportunities do these new learning models present for historically vulnerable and disenfranchised Black and Brown communities that have been traditionally mistreated and under-educated by conventional school systems? And, how do communities use this to proactively prioritize K-12 education as a top policy issue versus one that is reacted to in crisis?
REGISTER TODAY and join us for a 1-hour panel on policy solution and action plan to keep black and brown people safe while occupying public and private spaces. Panelists will offer expert insights and guidance.
Registrants will receive a Zoom access link upon registration. Audience members will be able to ask questions by chat. Audience members are encouraged to discuss and share the panel on social media at #CSGEAST #CCC
