Idaho
If an absent elector's ballot is returned to the county clerk by the United States post office as undeliverable, the county clerk shall investigate the validity of the absent elector's registration, and the results of the investigation shall be noted on the record. The secretary of state may promulgate rules to implement proper procedures for investigating the validity of an absent elector's registration.
Amends existing law to prohibit the use of drop boxes to return absentee ballots.
Amends and adds to existing law to provide for post-election audits of selected paper ballots in certain elections by the Secretary of State
Illinois
Creates the Illinois Broadband Deployment, Equity, Access, and Affordability Act of 2022. Provides that access to affordable, reliable, high-speed broadband service is essential to full participation in modern life in the State and throughout the United States.
Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Provides that the Environmental Protection Agency shall ensure that possible adverse economic, social, and environmental effects on environmental justice communities relating to any permit or permit renewal have been fully considered prior to publishing a draft permit or permit renewal for public comment, and that the final decision on the permit or permit renewal is made in the best overall public interest.
Creates the Tenant Protection Act. Provides that a landlord may increase the rent no more than once every 12 months, by an amount no greater than the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for the same 12-month period or 3%, whichever is lower.
Indiana
Coerced abortion. Requires that a pregnant woman seeking an abortion must be informed that a coerced abortion is illegal. Provides that certain medical personnel must inquire with a pregnant woman seeking an abortion whether the abortion is coerced. Requires certain medical personnel who believe that an abortion is coerced to offer the pregnant woman information on certain services, the use of a telephone, and an alternative exit from the health care facility. Makes it a Level 6 felony if a person knowingly or intentionally coerces a pregnant woman into having an abortion. Mandates reports of a coerced abortion to law enforcement.
Housing task force. Establishes the housing task force (task force) to review issues related to housing and housing shortages in Indiana. Sets forth membership, and requires the task force to issue a report to the general assembly and the governor not later than November 1, 2022.
Iowa
A peace officer may conduct a search and may seize garbage placed outside of a person’s residence for waste collection in a publicly accessible area without making an application for a search warrant.
Kansas
Requiring all voting systems for elections to use individual voter-verified paper ballots with a distinctive watermark.
